Principal's Message

Greetings Wildcat Faithful,

Summer break has come and gone and I hope your time off was filled with many hours of rest and relaxation with family and friends. As we begin to get everything ready for the upcoming school year, let me take this opportunity to thank you all, for ALL that you did for our students during the 2016-2017 school year. Last year's journey was amazing. It began with the most Algebra and English I students we have ever had, followed by the first ever Geometry Middle School group, continued with our Theatre group winning the TASB State Video Contest, District Champions in 7th grade basketball, Sweepstakes winners in Choir, and ended the year with improved STAAR scores and the best EOC scores our school has ever had. We also had many other students or groups winning different events in UIL Academics, Band, Athletics, Drill Team, FCA, and all of our Geometry cohort students passed the TSI Test to begin university course work. Truly AMAZING!! When we set high expectations for ourselves and our students, and truly believe that together we can change the world---WE CAN because the world did change for the aforementioned students.

Wildcat Faithful, the journey begins again. Once more, you will be called upon to do better than you did before, to inspire those you serve and to make our Wildcats believe that they are capable of much, much more. To that end, let us work together to do all that we can to ensure that the success of our students and of our school is a reflection of our ingenuity, collaboration and culture.

-Mr. F. Gonzalez

TASB awards Memorial Middle School $5,000 for video contest

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) recently awarded Memorial Middle School a $5,000 prize as the winners of the student video contest it sponsored. Memorial's Drama Club students created and starred in the video, which was selected as the top video in its category across the state.

"This school year, TASB sponsored a student video contest designed to give students an opportunity to tell others what makes their schools exceptional, why public schools deserve their support of their communities and state lawmakers, what makes Texas public schools the best choice, and how their school is making a difference in students' lives and future success, said Dr. Ralph Cantu, TASB Field Services representative.

The contest was open to all Texas elementary and secondary public school students.

"More than 100 videos were submitted," Cantu said. "From those entries, six districts in the state were chosen to receive the first and second prizes awarded in three categories: elementary, middle school, and high school. The first-place prize of $5,000 goes to Memorial Middle School."

All entries can be viewed on the TASB Website, which is www.tasb.org
